"A striking plot, a metaphor that touches me" - said a deeply moved spectator of the ButterbroteBesserEsser Opera. From November 5th to 9th, 2022, music-loving Munich residents were able to marvel at small and large artists on the stage and in the orchestra pit of the impressive Volkstheater.
The plot of the children's opera is quickly outlined. Two groups, two sandwiches and an underlying controversial question: does the butter belong on the bread or on the bottom? A question that ultimately leads to an epic duel between the two groups and in the process shows the redundancy that some conflicts can bring with them. The children's opera project - led and initiated by Daniel Grossmann, the conductor and artistic director of the JCOM - lasted for several months and was also aimed at socially disadvantaged and refugee children and young people. And the fact that the JCOM was so well received with this project was reflected eminently in the audience's opinions. "What you can achieve in a year with children (...) is the world!" - "The final chorus was unbelievably beautiful!" - "I always think it's nice when young and old create something together!"
But the young actors were also in seventh opera heaven! "The rehearsals were exhausting, but still incredibly beautiful! I love singing and being on stage, it's just great!" - said one enthusiastic young actor.
And even though the final rehearsals demanded a lot from the young artists, it was worth it for a moment in a very special way: "My personal highlight remains the cheering audience at the end of the performance, that is simply something very special!" reports ensemble member Valentin.
An outstanding performance by the participants, rewarded with phrenetic final applause.
