#jugendmeets JCOM: Student blog about the JCOM eLearning platform

Music in the Theresienstadt Concentration Camp is the name of the new project by the Jewish Chamber Orchestra Munich, which once again aims to literally create space for Jewish culture.

Over the last few months, under the direction and idea of conductor and founder Daniel Grossman, the JCOM has produced material about cultural life and, above all, the creation of music in Theresienstadt. A group of architecture students from the LMU, together with computer scientists, were responsible for the spatial design based on the conditions in the Theresienstadt concentration camp at the time. This resulted in three virtual rooms in which Jewish history can be seen in the form of images, video material, interviews with Holocaust survivor Michaela Vidláková, original documents, the biography of Viktor Ullmann and the new recording of his work. The Tale of Love and Death of the Cornet Christoph Rilke of the JCOM.

During the development process, some students from the Nymphenburg schools in grades 10 and Q11 were allowed to test the virtual rooms in two phases. While there was still some constructive criticism after the first test run, the project met with enormous interest in the second test phase and received an official "go" from the students due to the improvement in the virtual rooms. In keeping with the International Holocaust Remembrance Day on January 27, 2023, the eLearning platform can now be explored on the JCOM website (www.jcom.de/elearning).

Q11 students on their experiences:
“For two hours I was captivated by the coming to terms with the past, an intense insight that touched me deeply.”
"The eLearning platform is an ideal solution to make a world that our generation can hardly imagine more tangible. The interplay of text and audiovisual media creates a true historical experience that no classroom teaching can provide."
