Two peoples and a question that turns neighbors into enemies: Where does the butter go? On the top or bottom of the bread? Which is the right side? And who decides that anyway?
A wall is supposed to separate the self-proclaimed sandwich experts from each other. But the dispute escalates and both sides bring out ever bigger weapons. A spiral of violence is set in motion and soon no one knows exactly who threw the first sandwich and how the conflict, which has grown into a real threat, can be resolved.
The award-winning illustrator, author and translator Nadia Budde, together with the composer Gustavo Strauss, has created a world in which a conflict situation between two parties is told with a lot of humor, wonderful wordplay and rousing sounds, which is currently a serious reality in many places around the world.
Around 120 children and young people from Munich and the surrounding area worked together with a directing team and the musicians of the JCOM to create this children's opera - they appear on stage as singers and actors or sit as instrumentalists next to the professionals in the orchestra pit. Over several months they received choir, singing, rhythm and music lessons and experienced the development process of an opera up to the performances first hand. The crowning finale is now four performances in the new Munich Volkstheater!
