The Goldberg Variations BWV 988
arranged for small orchestra by Józef Koffler (1896-1944)

Orchestra
18 musicians, conductor
Duration
approx. 90'

One of the most famous works of the greatest German composer heard anew: the Jewish Chamber Orchestra Munich plays Bach's Goldberg Variations.

The sensitive orchestration for chamber orchestra is by Józef Koffler , a Polish-Jewish composer whose career began very successfully. However, in the late 1920s, under the pressure of political developments, he stopped composing himself and orchestrated the works of others. He was murdered in 1944, and to this day, his work remains little known.

In the interplay of strings and woodwinds, his instrumentation explores new aspects of Bach's 'Clavier-Uebung': Baroque variation meets the richness of sound of a small orchestra. A thrilling listening experience for Bach connoisseurs, a successful orchestral evening for everyone.
