JEWISH
A Jewish biography: the young Munich composer and conductor Paul Frankenburger leaves his promising career behind when he emigrates to Tel Aviv in 1933. Everything is different in his new home: his new surroundings and the unfamiliar sounds inspire him; he not only changes his name to Paul Ben-Haim, but also his compositional style. Hand in hand with the founding of the State of Israel, a new music emerges: Ben-Haim becomes the founder of Israeli classical music and influences generations of musicians.

TODAY
How vividly Paul Ben-Haim experienced his new, foreign homeland in 1933 is something we can hardly imagine in today's globalized world. The young Israeli composer Danielle Lurie nevertheless attempts to recreate this experience: she draws inspiration from Bavaria and Bavarian folk music and is writing a new work for the JCOM as a reflection of Paul Ben-Haim's work 'between worlds'.

FOR ALL
We all know the feeling: in a foreign land, our perspective changes. When a foreign land becomes home, our perspective shifts. For the concertgoers, Ben-Haim's biographical milestones become audible, and together we experience a mirrored experiment: how does the music of our homeland affect a composer who received her training at Ben-Haim's place of work?

In cooperation with the Ben-Haim Research Centre of the University of Music and Performing Arts Munich
From the 2025-26 season onwards, the JCOM will be the 'Orchestra in Residence' at the Munich Kammerspiele.
